Summer laying hen breeding

The high temperature and high humidity in summer provide good conditions for the survival and reproduction of bacteria, and chickens have thick feathers and no sweat glands, which can easily cause heat stress. To ensure the growth and development of laying hens, summer feeding management must be done well.

1: Strengthen ventilation

For open chicken houses, open the vents. It is best to install ventilation fans to strengthen ventilation, ensure fresh air, and adjust the temperature and humidity of the chicken house;

For closed chicken houses, longitudinal ventilation is generally used, with exhaust fans installed in one section and vents set at the other end.

2: Spray cooling

Install a rotatable spray facility inside the chicken house to spray water mist on the chickens intermittently to take away the heat emitted by the chickens;

You can also spray cool water on the top of the chicken house to absorb the heat of the chicken house by evaporation of water and adjust the temperature of the chicken house.

3: Reasonable diet

Laying hens have a decreased appetite in summer and are prone to insufficient energy intake. It is necessary to ensure the intake of trace elements, such as vitamin C, bacitracin zinc, etc.;

Calcium supplementation is also required. The eggshell is mainly formed at dusk. You can feed some shell powder and soluble stone powder to laying hens in the afternoon, which can not only improve the quality of the eggshell, but also reduce the impact of heat stress.

4: Ensure the quality of drinking water

In summer, poultry breathe faster and drink more water. Providing sufficient and clean water is the key to ensuring the health of laying hens and maintaining normal performance. Usually, a chicken drinks between 150ml-250ml of water, and the water temperature is around 10℃. It is recommended to use some automatic drinking water equipment, which can not only reduce the labor burden, but also prevent excessive human intervention from polluting the water quality.
